Brunel Centre: TV Studio Install

Our installation team were delighted to be approached by South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS), to facilitate the design and technical installation of a professional standard TV studio space into their newly built, 7m state-of-the-art Brunel Centre, at the college's Stoke Gifford Campus.

The new centre was designed with sustainability and wellbeing at its heart and is the new home of the colleges, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Media courses.

With sustainability in mind, it was important that the new centre’s TV studio installation was able to incorporate some of the college’s existing infrastructure and repurpose fixtures from their old media space, which had previously been located in a hut on the edge of a sports field.

Our installation team came up with a solution to incorporate the original free-standing truss of the lighting rig and curtain track from the old unit into the new larger space which though requiring significant modification ensured that the repurposed fixtures were a custom fit for the college's new TV Studio.

Repurposing of existing infrastructure was achieved by designing and installing a bespoke tubular support system to carry the old lighting truss, reused curtain tracks, and new green screen which allowed the original leg sections of truss to be incorporated by rotating them horizontally, to become the new main lighting suspension truss.

In specifying the new TV Studio’s Green Screen curtain and flooring our team designed and installed a corresponding custom-built infinity ramp to provide the studio with professional standard Chroma Key capabilities.

The new facilities now provide the college’s students with a wealth of new opportunities to discover and develop their creative media and broadcasting skills. Skills that are essential in enabling them to pursue future careers in the region's vibrant digital media sector.
